While working on a home lighting project, Alan Butler found a need for a lighting control device that combined a digital timer, motion detector, photo sensor and dimmer in one compact package. Searching the shelves of some large home centers in Alpharetta with no success, he discussed his lighting needs with cousin and established businessman, Jeff Smith.Jeff felt there had to be such a device already on the market. To his surprise, additional research came up empty, prompting the two to form a partnership in the development of their flagship product, The Light Butler ™.
In discussing their product idea with long time friend Jim Zauderer, owner of a large manufacturer’s representative group, Jim suggested a good starting point would be to have a discussion with one of his principals, GRT-Mars.GRT-Mars, having been in business for over 40 years as a premier product developer and global contract manufacturer sat down with the Light Butler group. After a brainstorming session and additional research, including patent searches, GRT-Mars was asked to proceed with the development, prototyping and final production of The Light Butler ™.
“We had a need that we felt could be transitioned into a product that the general public would accept and purchase. GRT-Mars helped us translate that need into a stylish, compact, multi functional lighting device, allowing our company to launch The Light Butler ™ as the first of several new consumer products.
